«Tóxicos: Pasado y Presente»

Tóxicos: Pasado y Presente. El libro ofrece claves para pensar históricamente los productos tóxicos como entidades materiales y políticas al mismo tiempo. Es evidente que sus cambiantes efectos tóxicos no pueden ser entendidos al margen de las sociedades que los crean, consumen y toleran. Tampoco pueden comprenderse adecuadamente sin tener en cuenta la desigual distribución de riesgos y beneficios que refuerzan o generan los productos tóxicos. A través de diversos episodios, productos y personajes, este libro revisa la producción de saberes e ignorancias en torno a los tóxicos durante los dos últimos siglos. Se emplean las más recientes investigaciones históricas que movilizan nociones como agnotología, epidemiología popular, zonas de sacrificio, mercaderes de la duda, barreras de la pericia y objetos sociotecnológicos, todo ello para huir de los marcos de discusión procedentes tanto del cientificismo tecnocrático como del relativismo postmoderno. Se discuten así los cambiantes regímenes de gobierno de la contaminación industrial, la salud laboral, la calidad de alimentos y los daños ambientales. Se analizan también las respuestas de las víctimas para conformar saberes, cuidados y acciones colectivas frente a las violencias lentas, los desequilibrios epistémicos y las injusticias ambientales del mundo tóxico.
